About Selina Stephen and Torchbearing

Hi I’m Selina, I’m a strategic messaging and engagement consultant working with senior leaders across health and care.

I created Torchbearing to help leaders communicate the ideas that matter most, to help change systems, inspire teams, and make progress feel possible again.

Working with Selina changes how you think about communication. She uses evidence and empathy and stories so that messages actually reach people and are memorable.

With a background as a qualified Improvement Advisor working across the NHS and internationally, I bring a deep knowledge of health systems and a passion for positive change in health services. This combined with my training in behavioural science communications and experience working at a strategic level as a change agent puts me in a unique position to support leaders to shape how change is understood and acted on in complex systems.

I am an alumna of the Behavioural Science Academy in Zurich, where I deepened my understanding of how people make decisions and what helps them to embrace or resist change. That learning built on what I had already seen in practice and gave me a stronger framework for understanding how people respond to communication.

The science gives me structure. The people give me meaning. Whether I am working with a chief executive preparing for a major announcement or a policy team launching a new initiative, my focus is always on the human side of change and what people need to see, feel and believe before they can do something differently.

Torchbearing puts that understanding into practice. Progress in any system depends on how well we connect as humans. When communication is built on empathy and evidence, it does more than reach people. It moves them.
